One of my favorite historical images of Standard Oil of California comes from their 1924 annual report showing that the Los Angeles area was once a giant oil field.
From those beginnings, modern-day Chevron was formed through the merger of several companies, which, at their peak on a pro-forma basis, were collectively responsible for ~20% of the world’s oil production.
To put that into contemporary terms, that would be just shy of the combined oil production of the U.S. and Saudi Arabia today.
However, the chart I have not gotten around to putting together is the reconstructed production history by geography.
Until now.
