The Gist: Oil & gas stocks are historically weakest from spring to fall but “this time may be different.” Yup! I said that dreaded phrase!


History has shown that oil & gas equities are seasonally strong from fall to spring.

The chart below divides over a century worth of data into two periods. Price-only percentage returns from September (fall) to April (spring) are shown on the left, while returns from April (spring) to September (fall) are shown on the right.
